About the Construction Automation Laboratory
The Centre for Sustainable Infrastructure (CSI) provides a focus for multi-disciplinary research in the field of sustainable civil infrastructure. Within the CSI, we will be establishing a Construction Automation Laboratory. The laboratory is planned to be operational in early 2018. It will be a first of its kind in Australia for research and development of 3D concrete printing for construction applications, such as construction of buildings. The laboratory will have several equipment, including a large-scale 3D concrete printer, two small-scale 3D concrete printers, two powder bed 3D printers, and two robot controlled deposition systems. The laboratory will also have concrete mixing, pumping and extrusion facilities for the 3D concrete printers

About the job
We have a newly created role of Senior Laboratory Engineer who will be responsible for the operation of the Construction Automation Laboratory. As our Senior Laboratory Engineer, you will have a broad scope and will need a high degree of initiative, problem solving skills, engineering knowledge and self-management to deal with the range of complex functions, equipment and tasks including supporting students undertaking research to achieve their project goals, equipment development and procurement, procurement of materials for research and testing for research and commercial purposes. You will need the ability to understand the automation systems, robots, electronics, mechanical systems and some knowledge of concrete for construction applications. Hand-on practical skills including steel fabrications, welding, concreting, crane and forklift operations will be required for the operation of laboratory. As part of your role, you will be required to participate in relevant Administrative and Technical Staff meetings and other committees.

About you
To be successful in the role, you will have:

• A bachelor degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience.

• Driver license, fork lift license, overhead crane license and EWP license

• Experience in the operation of robotic systems, autonomous systems or machinery with highly advanced electronics
