About the scholarship
Swinburne Business School is pleased to announce a PhD position in Marketing (Quantitative). The successful applicant will be working on a project entitled, “Investigating customer experience through the lens of customer segmentation, valuation, and retention strategies”. The project is led by Associate Professor Sean Sands, Director of the Customer Experience & Insight (CXI) Research Group within the Department of Management and Marketing, Swinburne Business School.

A three-year SUPRA scholarship with a $10,000 per annum top-up scholarship funded by a commercial partner is being offered to an outstanding candidate who has graduated with a Bachelor with honours 1 or 2A equivalence (for example, a Masters Degree) in a discipline commensurate with the topic. The scholarship includes an annual stipend of $27,082 per annum for three years to support living, research travel and expenses.

The successful candidate may be located at Swinburne University of Technology campus in Hawthorn, Melbourne as well as spend regular period of time located within the co-funding partner organisation, in Melbourne CBD.

The candidate will work closely with the industry-partners data analytics team and will be expected to extract customer data and undertake in-depth analysis of behavioural patterns of the client’s customer base. There is a requirement to be in Melbourne during parts of the candidature to fulfil the requirements of the degree.

Skills and experience
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • A Bachelor degree honours and/or a Research Master’s degree with H1 or 2A equivalence in a discipline relevant to the social and economic impacts of social enterprise, program evaluation, and/or mental health and wellbeing
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent (e.g. Pearson Test of English (PTE) examination certificate with a minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual band score below 6.0)
  • Demonstrated strong social and adaptive communication skills to interact with a range of people from community, industry and the university sector
