About the Factory of the Future at Swinburne
Swinburne’s Factory of the Future is a hub where industry and Swinburne researchers co-create the future of Advanced Manufacturing in Australia with a particular emphasis on digitalization and Industry 4.0. We do this through assisting companies in articulating new business outcomes and by making these come alive through (digital) strategy development, design and rapid prototyping.

About the job
As the manager of the Factory of the Future you will be a key part of this process with responsibility for both the “big picture” as well as the day-to-day operations of the Factory.

Big Picture: You will be one of the first points of contact for our national and international business partners. You will work with our partners to develop a deep understanding of the future business outcomes they wish to create and translate this into projects. This includes mapping Swinburne’s technical and research capabilities in Industry 4.0/Digital, product design and engineering against our partners’ requirements. You will act as the technical authority with respect to our clients. You will also assist the Director of the Factory of the Future in the development of strategy for the facility based on the customer engagement and market insights you will gain.

Day-to-day operations: Delivery to our clients is enabled by the day-to-day operations of the Factory of the Future. You will be responsible for smooth and safe day-to-day operations of the Factory, including ensuring the equipment remains operational at all times. You will take responsibility for implementing Swinburne’s digital platforms in the Factory and drive the development of a digital twin. You will furthermore have line management responsibilities for a number of technical staff members and will manage the allocation of personnel and facility resources across projects within the Factory.

About you
To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in a technical or operational management role in manufacturing or a manufacturing-related operation, requiring the ability to plan, coordinate, supervise, monitor and evaluate.
  • Demonstrated ability to elicit business outcomes from external customers and translate them into projects, which may require research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated service excellence (inc technical support and advice) to internal and external clients, with a track record of delivering projects in a complex environment.

A full list of the selection criteria is available within the position description.
