About Swinburne
Swinburne is a progressive university that aims to increase Australia’s capacity in science, technology and innovation as the drivers of modern, internationalised economies and workplaces. Our university is focused on high-impact global research, high-quality teaching and active engagement with both industry and the community.

About the Internet of Things (IoT) Lab
The Internet of Things (IoT) Lab addresses important challenges in our industries, cities, farms, hospitals, homes, retail chains, personal lives and our society. Securely, and in real time, we collect, integrate and analyse data from potentially billions of internet-connected devices that range from sensors, cameras, smart phones and wearables, to smart meters, vehicles, medication pills, and industrial machines. We develop innovative IoT-based solutions for industries and governments. Our IoT solutions have delivered significant impacts in the manufacturing, agriculture, retail, health/well-being, and defence sectors in Australia and overseas.

About the job
We are looking for a Research Fellow to join our team in one of Australia’s foremost IoT labs. Working alongside our IoT Lab Director and a team of academics, Research Engineers, and several post-graduate students you will be key in generating the Lab’s research outcomes and industry impact. In particular, you will conduct research in one or more of the following areas:

• Development of advanced IoT devices and robots that provide information from and perform actions in the IoT cyber-physical ecosystem;

• Discovery and integration of IoT devices and their data permitting the use of potentially billions of IoT devices that have been deployed, owned, and controlled by others;

• Real-time IoT data analysis on the cloud, at the edge, and on the move, including localisation, personalisation, and contextualisation of IoT data;

• IoT Security and privacy for IoT devices with limited computing resource and connectivity;

• IoT Actuation via IoT devices, robots and process-based automation;

• Lower-power and longer-range IoT networking for IoT devices;
• Wearable IoT devices and systems; and Human performance, human/IoT interaction, and IoT information visualization.

You will be key to driving our industry engagement, including developing proposals for industry and government funded-projects; and interacting with our current and potential industry partners. In project delivery tasks, you will be expected to work closely with a team of Research Engineers and students to undertake design, development, implementation and testing of IoT solutions and systems. Through your previous experience, you are able to understand the business needs and can incorporate these needs into technical solutions.

Please note, this is a fixed term 3-year position with the possibility of extension.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:

• Doctoral qualification in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and two years R&D or industry experience.

• Prior research experience in sensor data analysis and at least one of the following: real-time data analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, cloud computing, or semantic web.
