About the job
The incumbent will provide high-level academic, research and professional leadership in the new Speech Pathology course in the School of Health Sciences.
While the position is an ongoing role as an Associate Professor of Speech Pathology, this appointment will also fulfill a role of Course Director for a fixed term of five years, which is renewable.

The primary focus of this position is to lead the implementation of an innovative, entry to practice postgraduate Speech Pathology course to be offered at Swinburne as part of the Health Sciences Strategy. The incumbent will be expected to develop a modern Speech Pathology curriculum which includes augmentative communication and tele-health. All allied health programs at Swinburne take advantage of the strong university profile in technology, design and disability. 

The program will be delivered using online, blended and on-campus modes of delivery. The incumbent will be responsible for the recruitment and supervision of new teaching/research staff into the course.

In addition, the incumbent will:

  • Conduct research
  • Convene and teach postgraduate units
  • Provide oversight of clinical placements
  • Coordinate academic programs and supervise research students

The incumbent will be committed to building two-way clinical and research partnerships in Australia and enthusiastic about developing the Speech Pathology profile of Swinburne University both locally and abroad. The incumbent will also work closely with the other postgraduate health programs within the University.

Skills and experience
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • A PhD qualification relevant to Speech Pathology
  • Membership of Speech Pathology Australia
  • Demonstrated experience in tertiary teaching in speech pathology including a record of leadership in curriculum development and course coordination.
  • In particular, demonstrated ability to teach courses using; problem/ case based learning approach, flexible delivery modes and simulation
