About the job
The International Student Adviser (ISA) works within the International Student Advisory & Support (ISA&S) team at Swinburne. The ISA&S team ensures that Swinburne meets its legislative welfare, safety and support obligations under the ESOS Act, 2007, The National Code of Practice, the Migration Act, and other State and National laws and standards in force at any time. Swinburne holds itself to best practice. The ISA&S team delivers outstanding customer service to Swinburne international students by providing the most pertinent and up to date safety, community and Swinburne support information needed to enable international students to succeed in their studies and live with confidence in Australia.

With a customer-service focus, the ISA provides support services to international students studying Swinburne’s programs in Australia. The ISA’s provide operational input to the development and implementation of pro-active activities and events to ensure the most appropriate support for international students throughout their lifecycle with Swinburne. The ISA&S team also provides best practice critical incident support for students and their families if an unfortunate illness or accident should affect them. On occasion, provision of these services may involve assistance outside of standard work hours.

The ISA&S team assists individuals, cohorts and groups of students, and is proactive in identifying opportunities to implement and review information and programs provided to students. The team works with internal stakeholders to provide a seamless provision of support to students by liaising with and advising Swinburne staff to ensure the university meets its student support obligations under the ESOS Act, and with internal and external stakeholders on the provision of targeted programs and service delivery.

ISA’s are also allocated defined cohorts for periods as an opportunity for individual professional development, and to regularly review current processes to contribute constant improvement opportunities to the team and its standards of operation.
This position reports to the Associate Director, International Student Advisory & Support (ISA&S).
