About the job

Due to an internal promotion, our Smart Structures Laboratory (SSL) is looking for a Senior Test Engineer to join them in a full-time ongoing capacity. Based out of our Hawthorn campus, with the occasional side trip to Croydon, you will work with a team of Engineers to provide specialised technical support to the lab. Your daily responsibilities will include collaborating with undergraduate and postgraduate students to run their experiments. Due to the reputation of the lab, we have developed strong industry partnerships. As such, you will play an important role in running experiments and writing up high quality summary reports for our industry partners. This will also include providing them with regular updates on their projects and experiments.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • A bachelor degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in the operation of an advanced heavy structures laboratory for educational, research and commercial testing applications.
  • Skill in the control and use of hydraulic actuators, hydraulic systems, Universal Testing Machines, specimen preparation and testing, instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Practical engineering design and skills in concrete & steel fabrication, welding, machining and application of power tools.
