About the job
Swinburne’s School of Science teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Physics and Biomedical Engineering. We have an agenda of building a strong research culture that includes international collaboration, competitive grants and high quality publications.
We currently have a newly created vacancy for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
In this role, you will undertake original research in the general area of physics (optics, lasers, microscopy, optical waveguides) and nanotechnology. You will be expected to make original and innovative contributions to the advancement of research in the field such as optical sensors, bio-medical optical applications, micro-/nano-photonics, 3D laser fabrication/printing, astronomy instrumentation.
You will have the following principal roles:
(i) develop, conduct and advance innovative research within the field of optical physics (0205) and nanotechnology (10007). Top quality publications at prestigious venues are expected.
(ii) assist the Center for Micro-Photonics in developing and growing their success rate in obtaining nationally competitive grants;
(iii) assist with the supervision and mentorship of postgraduate students; and
(iv) assist with the development of joint research programs between Swinburne University and local industries, in particular (but not limited to) healthcare industry and defence.

About you
To be successful in the role, you will have:
• An earned doctoral qualification in physics, optical engineering/technology, bio-sensors/microscopy, solar cells discipline or a related field
• Strong publications in broad optical science and nanotechnology areas especially optical devices and measurement methods or nano-/micro-fabrication/printing.
• Strong capability to win research fund projects or demonstrated record of research funding.
• Demonstrated capability or research potential to engage with industry, business and/or government
