About the scholarship
Swinburne University of Technology’s School of Health Sciences is announcing an exciting opportunity for a PhD student to work and research in the growing digital health and informatics area. Digital health and informatics is an interdisciplinary field, combining knowledge and skills at the intersections of: health science, information technology, computer science, information systems, sociology, management and others to support health and healthcare. Through technological innovation, digital health care may help to improve health service delivery, redefine models of care and positively impact health outcomes.

Potential topics for eligible PhD projects align to the School’s digital heath strategy. These might include, but are not limited, to:

  • Making an impact on people’s health through digital technologies (e.g. mobile health, web and social media, electronic health records, devices and wearables, and games, etc.)
  • Redefining models of care and health services through digital technology
  • Consumer engagement/empowerment enabled by digital technology
  • Individuals’ participation in health enabled by digital technology
  • Telehealth
  • Technology supporting health professionals in their work
  • Promoting health and digital health literacy
  • Overcoming barriers to care and adoption of technologies


The successful applicant will receive $32,082 (AUD) per annum (tax free) for up to 3 years (scholarship stipend of $27,082 + top-up of $5,000 per annum). The successful applicant must:

Skills and experience
• A Bachelor degree Honours and/or a research master’s degree in a discipline relevant to the research topic
• Enthusiastic and self-motivated person who meets the academic requirements for enrolment for the PhD degree at Swinburne University of Technology
• Academically sound candidate with essential team-working, observational and communication skills
