LGBTIQ Psychologist/Counsellor

Help people to gain better mental health, and improve the quality of their lives.

Mind is looking for a LGBTIQ Psychologist/Counsellor to join our team at the Mind Equality Centre located in Fitzroy North. The Centre’s psychological services deliver a broad grouping of counselling services including; ATAPS, Better Access, EAP, specialist services, drug and alcohol and carer services. The service aims to assist in improving the mental health and wellbeing of people who identify as LGBTIQ, who are living with a mild to moderate diagnosable mental illness.

In this role you will:

  • part time, up to 38 hours per week in an ongoing role

  • deliver allied psychological services to people of all ages who have been referred to the program by an approved referrer (ATAPS, MBS, NDIS or privately)

  • provide evidence based, focused psychological strategies to a range of customers in either one to one, couple or group settings

  • develop short term strengths-based assessments and plans with the customers at the centre

  • use evidence based interventions to support better well-being and mental health

  • engage in team meetings, clinical and administrative supervision and any other operational meetings relevant to the role

You will have:

  • tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Social Work (Mental Health Credentialed) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience (ideal)

  • registration or membership of the relevant professional registration body or association i.e. APRA, ASWA or ACA

  • either experience working with the LGBTIQ community, an ally of the LGBTIQ community or identify as LGBTIQ

  • credentialing in the field of mental health, or under the approved and direct professional supervision of a fully qualified professional expert in that field who is registered to provide Better Access

  • registered with and has a Medicare Provider number, or is eligible for registration

  • previous experience in training is ideal, or at least an interest in the area of training
