About Architecture at Swinburne

Swinburne University of Technology welcomes applications to join the burgeoning Architecture course at the rank of Lecturer (Level B) full-time.
Having commenced its undergraduate course in 2018, the Architecture course is preparing to launch its postgraduate courses in 2019, including the Master of Architecture, the Master of Urban Design and the joint Master of Architecture and Urban Design.

Located within the School of Design within the Faculty of Health, Arts and Design, Architecture at Swinburne sees architecture as strongly related to other design professions. The School of Design has long been the home to innovative and internationally recognised courses in Communication Design, Media Design, Interior Architecture and Industrial Design. Architecture joins these, alongside Urban Design, and Architectural Engineering, which spans the Faculty of Health, Arts and Design and the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.

While this is a general call for applications, Swinburne Architecture is particularly interested in those whose teaching and research expertise lies in one of the following areas:
• Contemporary theory and design
• Theory and application of BIM
• Health and Design

About the role

As a Lecturer in Architecture, you will contribute to the curriculum development, teaching and research within Swinburne’s Architecture course. As one of our Lecturers, you will play an important role in the overall students’ experience, teaching quality, and quality of graduate outcomes. You will be a developing expert within your field building a reputation for innovation, high quality teaching and research excellence. You will have demonstrated experience as a practising Architect and bring strong industry connections and an understanding of industry needs that will contribute to the School’s objectives as a leading institution for design education and research. Your daily responsibilities will include appropriate activities to maintain and develop your scholarly, research and professional expertise in order to contribute to the education of the next generation of architectural design practitioners and leaders, and to the advancement of knowledge in a rapidly evolving social, cultural and technological field. You should be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary environment and be capable of making significant internal and external links with other academic disciplines, professional organisations, industry and government. You will have a demonstrable track record in gaining competitive research income, producing high quality research outcomes and conducting research in multi-disciplinary teams. 

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:
• Demonstrated ability to manage curriculum, and high quality teaching in Architecture with outstanding graduate outcomes
• An emerging track record of high quality research in Architecture or other related areas, as evidenced by publications and non-traditional research outcomes.
• An emerging track record in attracting external research income through competitive grants and/or industry collaboration.
• Demonstrated professional practice as an architect in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry (a minimum of three years experience), strong professional networks and evidence of expertise in design.
