About Stonnington

The City of Stonnington is a Local Government Council that takes in the suburbs of Armadale, Glen Iris, Kooyong, Malvern, Malvern East, Prahran, South Yarra, Toorak and Windsor. As an innovate and progressive Council, Stonnington provides over 100 services to the community such as Libraries, Early Years Services, Maternal and Child Health Services, Parks and Garden Management, Waste Management, Road and Infrastructure Maintenance, Planning Services, Youth Services, Care Services, venue management, Events, activities for Seniors, Economic Development and Tourism, Swimming Centres, Sports and Recreation facilities and many, many more.

Through professional growth

To support the growth of employees we offer acting arrangements in higher-level roles and secondments across the organisation and other local governments. We have an extensive learning and development program with regular training sessions offered in house, we support external learning and training and financial assistance for tertiary qualification studies.

Through flexible working

We’re seeing positive reactions to and engagement in our hybrid working model that includes in-office and working from home arrangements, and we will continue to offer and enhance our flexible working model well beyond the current pandemic. It's important that staff maintain a balance at work and we further encourage this with a monthly accrued day off for our full-time roles, annual leave loading of 17% and flexible working and job share arrangements.

Through wellbeing

We understand life can be challenging sometimes which is why we have an award nominated wellbeing program which offers online pilates and fitness sessions, annual team exercise challenges, discounted aquatic and gym memberships, mediation sessions and various other events and programs. Our employees' health, both physical and mental, is our top priority and as part of our wellbeing program, we offer a free employee assistance/counselling program and peer support which is extended to support the people closest to you too.

Through our understanding of personal life & family Employees are given priority access to our childcare centres for employees living and residing in Stonnington and maternal and child health and immunisation programs. Since 2011, we've maintained our status as an accredited Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace.

We offer family violence leave and paid parental leave, both of which are set to increase under our new Enterprise Agreement (EA) that iscurrently being negotiated, which will also include the addition of Gender Affirmation leave. Our EA also offers annual salary increases, paid carers leave and paid personal leave.

Through reward, recognition an engagement

We have recognition programs with innovation awards and celebrating success days throughout the year to acknowledge the achievements of our staff.

Each year we have the 'Photo Snaps Competition' where staff submit their holiday snaps to win prizes.

Lunch and learn sessions run frequently throughout the year, offering an opportunity to meet with our CEO on hot topics such as remote working, sustainability and recreation.

Gender Equality

At the City of Stonnington, we strive for gender equality and condemn gender-based violence in all its forms. In 2021 we are undertook a comprehensive Workplace Gender Equality Audit investigating how we are faring and identifying key focus areas for the development of a four-year Gender Equality Action Plan to be released in March 2022.

The City of Stonnington has zero tolerance against abuse and family violence and we are committed to providing support to staff that experience family violence. We actively patriciate in the 16 Days of Activism campaigns against Gender-Based Violence and Active Bystander training.

We look after the environment

We have a Green Team made up with employees throughout the organisation, collaborating to find new ways of enhancing Sustainability at Stonnington. Some initiatives implemented internally include: electric bikes for travelling between work sites; Corporate MyKi cards to encourage using public transport for travelling to our sites or external meetings and composting bins on site for food scraps that contribute to the mulch used in our office veggie gardens.

We are leading the way in the application process and are one of the first Council's to have a one page 'Success Profile’ rather than a Position Description, and removing the need to respond to Key Selection Criteria.

On top of our general recruitment, we offer a range of employment pathways for youth and disadvantaged job seekers including our Work Experience Program, Inclusion Work Experience Program, partnerships with various university’s for student positions and placements, Cadetships, Apprenticeships in our Parks and Gardens area, internships and various traineeship programs.
