Celebrating diversity

We’re passionate about helping people lead happy, healthy lives. Uniting celebrates diversity of ability, age, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, intersex variation and/or gender identity and welcomes everyone, exactly as they are. 

Our organisational strategy includes our commitment to celebrating LGBTI communities. Our strategy is to evolve our advocacy, inclusivity and safe environments for members of LGBTI communities, their families and friends. 

Our LGBTI strategy is to be leaders of inclusive practices so that members of the LGBTI communities, their friends and families, feel welcome and safe. This means we welcome all people including those who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Gender Diverse and those with an Intersex variation – or however you identify.

 

Rainbow Tick

 

Uniting was the first faith-based aged care organisation in Australia to be officially recognised as LGBTI friendly and we received Rainbow Tick Accreditation in 2015. 

In 2018, Uniting was reaccredited with the Rainbow Tick for over 240 services across:

• Residential aged care 
• Home and community care
• Retirement and independent living
• Local Area Coordination of disability services

We are a longstanding member of Pride in Diversity and a foundation member of Pride in Health and Wellbeing.

 

Australian Workplace Equity Index (AWEI)

Each year we take part in the Australian Workplace Equity Index (AWEI) benchmarking exercise run by Pride in Diversity. This has consistently recognised Uniting as one of Australia’s top LGBTI employers.
