About the Group

The Students group shapes, designs and delivers key student services and experiences to prepare RMIT students for study, life and the global workforce.

We work in partnership with students, academics, professional staff, industry and the community to deliver transformative student experiences that improve access, participation, retention and success for all RMIT students.

The Group is led by the Executive Director Students. 

About You

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Career Success, you will deliver professional, proactive careers counselling and career development services to support students from low socioeconomic status backgrounds and from regional, rural and remote areas to transition into employment to suit their individual circumstances. These services are delivered in individual face to face, phone or online consultations or through workshops and events.

Career development support is delivered face-to-face, in group settings and online, with a focus on the provision of personalised, ‘high-touch’ support, inclusive and tailored career development interventions and proactive outreach to diverse cohorts.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have, but not limited to:

  • Extensive experience in career development/careers coaching or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • A solid understanding of the key challenges facing students from low socioeconomic status backgrounds and from regional, rural and remote areas, and experience of working with diverse cohorts.
  • Highly developed and confident communication skills for consulting with academic staff, employers and key stakeholders inside and outside the RMIT community and for counselling students with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of career development theory and practice, the principles of learning & teaching and demonstrated ability to apply these to the development and delivery of workshops, programs, curriculum and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to students from low socio-economic status backgrounds and from regional, rural and remote areas as valued individuals whilst maintaining boundaries and displaying appropriate behaviors at all times.

 

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree plus post graduate qualifications in Careers Education recognised by the Career Industry Council of Australia
  • Lived experience or experience of working with (and empathy and understanding for) people from disadvantaged and/or diverse backgrounds
