About the role

The National Manager Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Practice, Child, Youth and Family (CYF) will lead practice elements of the Life Without Barriers (LWB) Strategy and Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and related projects internally and externally across the CYF portfolio, nationally.  This includes a strong focus on cultural safety ensuring that practice and support of children, and young people in our programs, their families and communities are culturally responsive and lead to improved outcomes and self-determination.

The incumbent will work closely with the CYF senior leadership team, National Director of Reconciliation, and State Leads, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Initiatives to ensure culturally safe partnerships, approaches, practices, and systemic collaboration, nationally.

Our focus is working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led organisations, community, Elders and emerging leaders to constantly review our own practices and provide culturally respectful support that contributes to equality, reconciliation and healing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strong practice leadership on culturally responsive service delivery to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families that lead to improved outcomes and self-determination.
  • Subject matter expertise in the Child Youth and Family evidence based practice applied to a range  of projects linked to the LWB Strategy, RAP, and other internal and external initiatives.
  • Facilitate and develop effective partnerships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander controlled and other organisations to support responses to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, and communities.
  • Contribute to the development of culturally safe and responsive policies and procedures that promote self-determination and reconciliation.

Skills & Experience

  • This role is an identified position so must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander decent.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Science, Community Development, Social Work, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, and communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, delivery and Implementation of evidence- informed Child, youth and family practice and implementation as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and their families.
  • Ability to adapt existing evidence-informed approaches with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to ensure they are culturally and responsive/.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals, families and communities from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective.
  • Strategic thinking, with the ability to drive national initiatives that support Life Without Barriers Purpose and Values and the capacity to plan and prioritise at a strategic level.
  • Demonstrated understanding of evidence-informed service delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and to deliver high quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Proven experience in building and managing strategic relationships with key stakeholders from government agencies, accrediting bodies and NGOs.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check.

The position may require the incumbent to travel to various work locations to discharge the responsibilities of the position (when COVID restrictions do not apply).
