About the Role
With the establishment of the Space Technology and Industry Institute at the beginning of 2021, we seek to further invest in our emerging, core program of Space Manufacturing to tackle challenges at the forefront of human understanding and imagination. The Senior Research Fellow will be integral to advancing those activities.
Working with industry partners, you will develop and undertake applied research programs, including in areas of additive manufacturing, the use of advanced lightweight materials and surface coatings in applications for space and other applied fields. A particular focus will be on developing the process and equipment within the Institute to qualify such capabilities for space, including supporting our industry partners on that journey.
This role will join a high-performing team with a strong collaborative tendency as we adopt a seamless offering of internal excellence for industry partners, supporting each other and the broader Swinburne research environment.
About You
To be suitable for this role, you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Demonstrated research and/or industry experience in at least one area of space application for advanced manufacturing, surface coating or lightweight materials
- Ability to work autonomously, with a high-level strategic vision and engage stakeholders both internally and externally, particularly industry
- Experience working with industrial partners to deliver research and development milestones to time
- Ability to develop and maintain links with business, community, and industry
- Ability to design and conduct independent research projects within a broader overall team environment, identify complementary expertise and initiate appropriate collaborations, and analyse the state of areas of technology from publications and patents
Qualifications
An earned doctoral qualification in physics, materials engineering, or a related discipline.
