About the Role 
A postdoctoral research position is available from 1st September 2022 to work within the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne. The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to the research of Professors Jean Brodie, Duncan Forbes and Warrick Couch.

In particular, the focus will be on the origins of Ultra Diffuse Galaxies (UDGs) in a range of environments. UDGs reveal a number of interesting properties, such as their dark matter halos and globular clusters systems, which will be the focus of the research direction. Past experience in stellar kinematics, stellar populations and/or globular cluster systems would be useful. Responsibilities may include observing preparation, observing with the Keck telescope, and subsequent data analysis. This may include spectroscopic, imaging and /or integral field unit data. Writing telescope proposals and journal papers is also expected. An exceptional candidate with a background in relevant galaxy simulations will also be considered. Opportunities will be available to present at conferences, supervise postgraduate students and to conduct independent research.

The position is for 2 years (with a 6 month probation period), with a possible extension to 3 years.


About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 

  • Experience in astronomical observations, data handling and the analysis of spectroscopy and/or imaging;
  • Independent and collaborative research skills;
  • Strong record of research achievement with high-quality publications
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team

Qualifications
PhD in Astronomy or relevant field
