About the Role 
An exciting Research Assistant position is available within the Xiao Laboratory, Department of Health Sciences and Biostatistics, School of Health Sciences. It is a part-time, 0.4 EFT contract that is available for 12 months. The Research Assistant will conduct scientific research related activities under the supervision of the laboratory head (Dr Junhua Xiao) undertaking a funded research project with the aim to develop novel therapies for treating neurodegenerative diseases. The successful applicant will be required to undertake experiments as directed, involving cell culture, fluorescent microscope imaging, animal handling and immunohistochemistry. The successful candidate will also contribute to lab administrative tasks such as order laboratory supplies, the analysis of results, and assist the operations of the laboratory.


About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 

·       Demonstrated ability and/or experience in undertaking research project(s)

·       Ability to prepare standard laboratory solutions and reagents

·       Demonstrable ability to undertake quantitative analysis, prepare figures and help draft reports accurately and efficiently

·       Demonstrable understanding of the ethical, legal and regulatory compliance issues relating to the use of animals in research

 
Qualifications
Completion of an honours degree or a degree in the field of neuroscience, biomedical science or a relevant discipline
