About your new role  

The Cyber Security Consultant role plays a key role in guiding and contributing to the strategies of both the Cyber Operations function, and the Cyber Resilience Group more broadly, helping us continually evolve our capabilities to adapt to a continually changing threat landscape. 

 

Key responsibilities:  

  • You will take ownership of The Star’s threat intelligence framework. This will include continually developing and maturing the framework itself, but you’ll also be responsible for managing the inputs and then distilling the outputs so they can be digested by management and your other colleagues within cyber but also more broadly across the business. 

  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders throughout the business to develop and maintain a deep understanding of The Star’s operations, how this is supported by its computing environment, and what kinds of threats and vulnerabilities. 

  • You will also oversee The Star’s vulnerability management program, combining your understanding of the business, your knowledge of the threat landscape, and your relationships with key stakeholders to drive and advocate for the changes that will give the company the best security outcome. 

  • Understanding the current challenges your colleagues in the Cyber Operations team are facing will be key to informing your strategy and advice too, so to that end you’ll maintain a close working relationship with your colleagues, including providing guidance and mentorship.

To be successful in this role you will have:  

  • Previous experience working in cyber operations or engineering role. 

  • Experience working with common cyber defensive tooling technologies (EDR, NDR, firewalls, web proxy, identity) 

  • Strong communication skills – ability to communicate complex concepts simply and at managerial level. 

  • Experience building and maintaining key business relationships. 

  • Demonstrable understanding of fundamental IT concepts. e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Windows domain technologies (Active Directory, Kerberos, Group Policy etc.), Linux system administration, OS architecture etc.
