The School of Health Sciences brings together Swinburne's renowned teaching and research capacity in the areas of biomedical science and statistics, nursing and allied health, psychology, nutrition, health promotion, public and environmental health, and exercise and sport science.

The School comprises of three departments, three research centres and two clinics. The following departments are included for the sessional teaching EOI
  • Department of Health Sciences and Biostatistics
  • Department of Nursing and Allied Health
  • Department of Psychological Sciences
  • Health Placement Supervisions

Current Swinburne sessional staff
As part of the annual Expression of Interest (EOI) process, current sessional staff are required to complete a short online form confirming availability and teaching areas of interest in 2024. This process ensures you remain registered on the University’s sessional listing.

The EOI process also allows for current sessional staff to nominate teaching areas of interest including if you have not previously taught into them and meet the requirements. A list of teaching areas can be found at the bottom of this page, and via the registration form.

This process also ensures that any required documentation related to employment or professional accreditation remain current.

What you need to include
All current sessional staff will be asked to provide:
•     Updated CV and contact details
•     Discipline area expertise for teaching (select up to 3)

Receipt of your EOI will be acknowledged via a system generated notification. Unit Convenors will contact you if/as requirements arise.


Current Swinburne HDR students
If you are a currently enrolled HDR student, you are welcomed to apply. Please note, your sessional position should not interfere with the satisfactory progress of your studies. A reminder that the HDR candidature manual and statement of practice can be found here.

If you are a PhD student who is also a current sessional academic staff member, please ensure you select the option ‘Current HDR student and employed as sessional’.

•     Current registration or licences if applicable to your teaching area

External Expression of interest to teach at Swinburne
If you are interested in sessional academic teaching opportunities and are not currently employed at Swinburne or have not in the past 18 months been actively employed at Swinburne, please submit an application to be considered for teaching in 2024. If you are not currently employed at Swinburne, please see below for what you documents and information will be requested.

What you need to include
•     Current CV and contact details (including referees and details of teaching experience where applicable)
•     Certified copy of relevant qualifications
•     Current registration or licences if applicable to your teaching area
•     Preferred teaching discipline area (you may select up to 3)
•     Student evaluations (if applicable)
•     Visa details or working rights information (if applicable)

Please note: Candidates applying must have working rights within Australia as work sponsorship is not applicable to this role.
