About the role:

A unique and rewarding opportunity to join Box Hill Institute onsite within our Educational Office at the Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC) in Ravenhall as our Foundation Skills Teacher! This opportunity is part time- 2 days per week until June 2024!

Within this role you will be teaching students within the prison environment daily life skills including nutrition, resume writing, LEAN and various other topics.

You will be delivering planned sessions in a variety of innovative and adaptive ways to engage students and meet their needs and learning styles. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in the design and development of the learning resources and assessments.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to work with students to improve their employability and life skills to utilise upon release from prison.

Note: This role is located within a prison environment and teachers will be alone with student groups made up of prisoners. You will be employed by Box Hill Institute however working onsite at the Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC), in Ravenhall.


About You:

  • A current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) or Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
  • Experience within a similar teaching/training role
  • Ability to share knowledge within a training environment including the ability to research, select, and use a wide range of learning resources and assessment tools that would ensure a successful training program
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver logical, succinct, up-to-date and engaging course materials and lessons
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated high level awareness of, and responsiveness to, people from a broad range of diverse backgrounds and emotional contexts
  • Experience in effectively managing difficult and sensitive topics and questions
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to self-manage workload
  • Ability and confidence to work onsite and in the presence of students within the prison environment
