About the Role

As a Disability Support Worker, you will be dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of individuals in your local community. We are looking for candidates that are located in and available to work in Indooroopilly, Cannon Hill, Ascot, Holland Park and surrounding local areas. We have casual positions available with flexible hours where you will provide active, person centred support to people with disabilities. We have positions available in both our Lifestyle and Supported Independent Living (SIL) programs. You will be required to provide transportation in your own vehicle, so a valid Australian Drivers Licence and your own registered and insured vehicle is a requirement.

Working in our Lifestyles program you will be available to work Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We are looking for candidates that will provide a calming presence to support our male client with his everyday household tasks. Experience in managing challenging behaviours and working with anxious individuals will be highly regarded.

For our SIL program, candidates will be available to work throughout the week, including day shifts and sleepover shifts on weekends. The ideal candidate will be available to work community access shifts from 8:30am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday as well as 12:00pm to 5:00pm on Mondays. You will support an individual that is in a wheelchair, candidates that have prior experience with this type of support are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow person-centred support plans and behaviour support plans respectfully
  • Participate in community activities and encourage clients to perform daily living tasks
  • Track and document an individual’s progress through thorough record-keeping
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with our clients and their families
  • Commitment to a 24/7 roster, including sleepover shifts & weekends

Skills & Experience

  • Qualifications in Disability and/or previous industry experience will be highly regarded
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Experience in managing challenging behaviours, and supporting individuals in a wheelchair is desired
  • Proactive and energetic approach to providing support
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence and own reliable vehicle

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.

To be considered for and appointed to a position at Life Without Barriers, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a minimum of two (2) doses or hold a valid medical exemption certificate, in accordance with Life Without Barriers Employee COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
