About the Role 
Join Swinburne University as the Director, Commercial and Corporate Legal Services, and play a key leadership role in our Legal, Risk, and Compliance team. This pivotal position offers the chance to provide expert legal guidance across a range of commercial and corporate matters.

You will be a trusted advisor to the University, supporting its mission, helping to shape strategic decisions, and safeguarding the integrity of its operations. You'll advise on key legal interests, including in relation to major projects, landholdings, collaborations and partnerships.  
In addition, you'll contribute to innovative legal service delivery, embracing modern operations and exploring technology solutions to enhance value for the University. This role will also involve fostering a dynamic, solutions-focused culture within the Legal, Risk, and Compliance leadership team.

About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to demonstrate experience and capability in the following key accountabilities. 
  • Significant experience gained in reputable private legal practice or in-house including corporate and commercial work.
  • In addition to corporate and commercial experience, experience in public law, property and intellectual property would be an advantage.
  • Ability to maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and inspire their confidence, to work under pressure in a rapidly changing environment, to juggle competing priorities and to respond to stakeholders in a timely way.
  • Ability to manage and develop team members.
  • Ability to provide high quality legal advice and undertake significant negotiations in a complex environment, to take responsibility for professional advice and opinions, to work without supervision or direction as required, to show initiative, to manage uncertainty and to anticipate and meet the needs of the Senior Executives.

Qualifications
Australian legal practitioner within the meaning of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria).
