About the Role
Are you a dynamic design leader ready to shape the future of creative education and industry collaboration? Swinburne University is seeking a visionary Manager to lead the Swinburne Design Bureau (the Bureau) and coordinate the operational and administrative aspects of the Bureau, ensuring efficient project execution and fostering strong industry relationships.

As the Manager, you will actively seek and secure new projects, maintaining a steady pipeline of work to ensure the Bureau can operate in a self-sustained manner. An equally as important focus will be that of creative direction, ensuring all work that comes through the Bureau meets the industry standards. Reporting to the CDI Senior Design Manager, you will also be responsible for overseeing and guiding the creative direction of student-led industry projects, ensuring high-quality design outcomes and alignment with industry expectations. You will play a key role in mentoring students, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation, and maintaining strong relationships with industry partners.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that projects are sourced, run smoothly, from initial client engagement through to final delivery, while also identifying opportunities for growth and innovation within the Bureau’s offerings. You will ensure projects are executed to a professional standard, with a strong focus on branding, strategic direction, end-to-end project management, and student mentoring. The incumbent will drive creative excellence by providing guidance on design execution, storytelling, and visual communication across various disciplines, including print, packaging, motion design, and UX/UI.

We are looking for someone who thrives on collaboration, embraces a fast-paced environment, and finds inspiration in mentoring emerging talent. Your strong communication and organisational skills will help you manage multiple projects with ease, ensuring that every deliverable is polished, purposeful, and professionally executed.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
  • Extensive experience in the design sector with a minimum of two years’ experience in managing a design team.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing multidisciplinary design teams, guiding creative direction across branding, digital media, and UX/UI projects.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to analyse trends in visual communication, typography, and digital storytelling to inform design solutions.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing brand identities and design systems across print and digital platforms with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, XD) for high-quality design outputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to source and secure new projects and clients, identifying creative partnership opportunities.
