About the Role
We are seeking an experienced academic to join our Department of Architectural and Industrial Design and contribute to the curriculum development, teaching and research within Swinburnes Architecture course, specifically around professional practice. You will play a key role in the overall students experience, teaching quality and graduate outcomes, and will be acknowledged as an expert within your field, building a reputation for innovation, high quality teaching and research excellence.
As the Senior Lecturer, you will have demonstrated experience within professional practice within an Architecture and/or Urban Design firm, bringing strong industry connections and an understanding of industry needs and drivers that will contribute to the schools objectives as a leading institution for design education and research. In particular - detailed knowledge, experience and currency in client management, operations, documentation, contracts and construction administration are sought, in addition to construction, detailing, ESD and code compliance in practice are essential. This is all complemented by an understanding of the entry level skills needed by architecture graduates of the professionally accredited, postgraduate architecture Masters.
It is expected that you are comfortable working in an interdisciplinary environment and be capable of making significant internal and external links with other academic disciplines, professional organisations, industry and government. You will have a demonstrable track record in gaining competitive research income, producing high quality research outcomes and conducting research in multi-disciplinary teams.
You will be expected to carry out appropriate activities to maintain and develop your scholarly, research and professional expertise in order to contribute to the education of the next generation of architectural design practitioners and leaders, and to the advancement of knowledge in a rapidly evolving social, cultural and technological field.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Demonstrated ability to manage curriculum, and high-quality teaching in Architecture with outstanding graduate outcomes.
- An established track record of high-quality research in Architecture or other related areas, as evidenced by publications and non-traditional research outcomes.
- An established track record in attracting external research income through competitive grants and/or industry collaboration.
- Demonstrated professional practice as an architect in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry (a minimum of three years experience), strong professional networks and evidence of expertise in design.
- Demonstrated links with relevant industries, organisations and research communities and demonstrated competence in working with relevant professions in industry and government.
Qualifications
- An earned doctoral qualification in Architecture or associated field is preferred.
- Membership of an appropriate Professional body is preferred.
