About the Role 
We are seeking dynamic and forward-thinking academics to join our Industrial Design team and contribute to the delivery of our award-winning programs. You will contribute to curriculum development, teaching and research within Swinburne’s Industrial Design and Interior Architecture courses and play a key role in the overall students’ experience, teaching quality and graduate outcomes. You will be acknowledged as a developing expert within your field, building a reputation for innovation, high quality teaching and research excellence.

As the Lecturer, Architectural and Industrial Design you will be responsible for delivering content in design studios, convening units as well as engaging with our offshore program delivery. You will have demonstrated experience as a designer and bring strong industry connections and an understanding of industry needs that will contribute to the school’s objectives as a leading institution for design education and research. Detailed knowledge, experience and currency in design for manufacture as well as software such as SolidWorks, Revit, Rhino, digital sketching and prototyping in practice are essential. This is all complemented by an understanding of the professional attributes required by industry of graduate designers, and the ability to translate these to the classroom. 

It is expected that you are comfortable working in an interdisciplinary environment and be capable of making significant internal and external links with other academic disciplines, professional organisations, industry and government. You will have a demonstrable track record in gaining competitive research income, producing high quality research outcomes and conducting research in multi-disciplinary teams.

About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage curriculum, and high-quality teaching in Industrial Design with outstanding graduate outcomes.
  • Demonstrated professional practice as an industrial or interior designer within the related industries, with strong professional networks and evidence of expertise in design.
  • Demonstrated links with relevant industries, organisations and research communities and demonstrated competence in working with relevant professions in industry and government.
  • An emerging track record in attracting external research income through competitive grants and/or industry collaboration would be an advantage.  
  • Sound knowledge of computers, the digital design environment, standard design software packages such as SolidWorks, Keyshot, and Adobe Creative Suite. Programming and or scripting experience an advantage.

Qualifications
  • An earned (or currently under-examination) Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial/Product Design or associated field.
  • Membership of an appropriate Professional body is preferred.
