In this Gravitational Wave Data Science Support leadership role you will be part of a team ensuring the successful delivery of high-performance computing and data science programs, with a particular focus on the data processing and management needs of gravitational wave astronomers. Swinburne has a strong track record of leadership in academic supercomputing and is now involved in a program funded through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Scheme (NCRIS) to provide Astronomy Data and Computing Services (ADACS) to the national astronomy community. You will play a key role in establishing and growing a new Gravitational Wave Data Centre at Swinburne as an extension of this ADACS program, in close collaboration with the six institutes that form the OzGrav Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery: the Australian National University, Monash University, University of Adelaide, University of Melbourne, Swinburne and University of Western Australia. You will be part of an exciting and diverse team of software engineers and high-performance computing experts, with daily interaction with researchers pushing the boundaries of gravitational wave science and a personal investment in future discoveries.
In this role, you will ensure the timely delivery of key software and infrastructure development projects, taking a hands-on approach where necessary and demanding high-quality outcomes. You will take the lead on managing the relationship between the OzSTAR supercomputing environment at Swinburne and gravitational wave data and computing requirements: primarily the streaming and processing of data from the Laser Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO) and VIRGO. Key responsibilities will include project management and a combination of software engineering and testing, research and development activities and training. Working closely with the OzGrav Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery, you will work both independently and directly with other members of the support programs as well as with members of the astronomy community.
