About the job
Australian manufacturing is going digital and we are at the forefront of this transformation: we have recently received a 135 million dollar grant from Siemens to digitalise Swinburne’s Factory of the Future to create Australia’s first fully immersed Industry 4.0 facility.

We are seeking an expert automation Engineer to join the Factory of the Future. Preferably you will have some background in the development of digital twins and/or digital transformation and product lifecycle management software implementation experience. You will be responsible for driving the digitalization of the Factory of the Future and support the development of digital manufacturing systems for our partners and within the Industry 4.0 environment in Swinburne’s Factory of the Future.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of the Factory of the Future, you will interact with our national and international external clients, Swinburne staff and students, community collaborators and partner startup companies.

About the Factory of the Future at Swinburne
Swinburne’s Factory of the Future is a hub where industry and Swinburne researchers co-create the future of Advanced Manufacturing in Australia with a particular emphasis on digitalization and Industry 4.0. We do this through assisting companies in articulating new business outcomes and by making these come alive through (digital) strategy development, design and rapid prototyping.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have excellent problem solving, self and team management and communication skills. With a track record of customer-focused project delivery, you will be able to demonstrable your ability to liaise with a diverse range of client teams to translate of ideas into minimal viable products, prototypes and manufacturing specifications.

More specifically your application will demonstrate:

• A bachelor degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering (related discipline) and/or equivalent industry experience

• Demonstrated knowledge of industial automation, PLC, drives, process control, industrial communications

• Experience with digital and physical tools used in the development of automation systems

• Ideally experience in the development of digital twins
