What is your tribe mission?
Engineer design, build, test and support solutions that underpin over 30M customer interactions per annum whilst growing and developing a high performing engineering team (aka chapter) focused on transforming this key customer channel.
 
In this role you'll be a promoter and ambassador of the new culture and ways of working.  As a Chapter Lead, you will bring domain knowledge or deep expertise on a specific topic and develop this expertise and T-shaped capability in your chapter members.  Chapter Leads care for and nurture the growth of their chapter members to ensure they are inspired by a sense of purpose and are continually building their mastery and autonomy.  Chapter Leads are not full-time managers, they work as a squad member for 60% of their time and manage people (across squads) for 40% of their time.
 
 
What will Your Day look like?
  • Enables continuous delivery practices to increase delivery speed
  • Works in collaborative teams to build innovative solutions
  • Utilises tools and practices to build, verify and deploy solutions in the most efficient ways, enhancing tech division capabilities
  • Implements a culture within the Tribe and the Chapter, encouraging best practices around reviews, quality and documentation
  • Contributes to Engineering communities, meetups and conferences to promote technology development culture and practices
  • Provide ongoing support for platforms as required e.g. problem and incident management
  • Creates estimates and continuously reviews demand within the individual Squads/teams
  • May create, understand and monitor application metrics
 
What will be in your toolkit?
  • Have a thirst and willingness to expand knowledge with new technologies bringing benefits into the Tribe
  • Experienced in one or more roles previously eg: Front/Back end Engineer, Operations Engineer, Integration Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Security Engineer, Service Desk etc
  • Ability to triage and diagnose defects/issues
  • Experienced working with operations and architecture groups developing scalable and supportable solutions (desired but not mandatory)
  • Understand customer needs to make sound judgments
  • Pays attention to the detail and demonstrates problem solving capability to develop and deliver quality solutions
  • Understanding of current state landscape and relevant technologies
  • Has a broad understanding of how to apply New Ways of Working to their role
 
Chapter Lead Role Skills and Responsibilities
  • Deep expertise in your Chapter area combined with broad capability and a proven ability to innovate and adapt to the latest developments
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to inspire, mentor, coach and develop others
  • Ability to quickly grasp new content and the ability to translate this to your Chapter
  • Proven analytical skills and data-driven decision maker
  • Ability to ask for and give feedback
 
Specialised Skills
  • Strong language agnostic development skills
  • A thirst and willingness to expand knowledge with new technologies (e.g. self-learning, community involvement) bringing benefits into the engineering community and have an interest in growing people in the engineering chapter
  • Expert in designing and implementing complex solutions across multiple application platforms
  • Expert in problem solving and critical thinking
  • Expert in one or multiple programming languages and frameworks including Java, J2EE (JSP, Servlets), Struts, Spring, Web technologies including XML applications
  • Expert in one or more database technologies such as SQL Server, Oracle
  • Extensive experience working in large enterprise & globally distributed systems and be able to work with operations and architecture groups developing scalable and supportable applications
  • Extensive experiene in scripting in common languages such as Windows Powershell, Javascript, WSH, JSON, Python
  • Experience in MVC and other related application architecture
  • Experience in CI/CD tools
  • Experience in Application packaging for Windows platform using MSI toolkit or similar
  • Experience in one or more monitoring/alerting tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, NewRelic, Germain
  • Experience in Incident/Problement management and root cause analysis
  • Working Knowledge of network and common data centre infrastructure
  • Working Knowledge within Windows Virtual Server, Windows 07/10, Virtual Desktop and device integration over the network
  • Working knowledge of Windows IIS Server, IBM Websphere, JMS and MQ
  • Exposure to Siebel platform is an added advantage
