About the job
As Gravitational Wave Data Science HPC Senior Support you will provide high-level hardware and software support to assist in the delivery of astronomy-focused high-performance computing (HPC) and data science programs at Swinburne funded through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Scheme (NCRIS). These programs include the provision of Astronomy Data and Computing Services (ADACS) and the operation of the OzSTAR supercomputer as a national facility for the astronomy community. You will play a crucial role in the success of these programs by leading efforts to ensure that the data processing and management needs of gravitational wave astronomers are met as a Gravitational Wave Data Centre (GWDC) is established at Swinburne as an extension of the ADACS program.

The appointee will focus on the relationship between ADACS/GWDC and the data and computing operations of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO) and VIRGO facilities, ensuring the necessary steps are taken to bring OzSTAR to official LIGO data centre status and to maintain this status into the future. You will provide high-level HPC system administration and lead efforts to train researchers in the efficient use of HPC systems, while also taking a leading role in engaging with relevant industry partners.

Working within the Centre for Astrophysics & Supercomputing and working closely with the OzGrav Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery, you will work both independently and directly with other members of the support programs as well as with members of the national astronomy community. You will be part of an exciting and diverse team of software engineers and high-performance computing experts, with daily interaction with researchers pushing the boundaries of gravitational wave science and a personal investment in future discoveries.
