We are looking for a passionate individual to come join our Student and Academic Services Department to assist students utilising AccessAbility Services at Swinburne.
About the Job
As the Senior AccessAbility Adviser, you will play a pivotal role in supporting AccessAbility Services to provide a high standard of service to Swinburne students and staff. AccessAbility Services works with all Swinburne students, including Higher Education (HE), Pathways and Vocational Education (PAVE), Swinburne Online (SOL), and Open Universities Australia (OUA).
Under the broad direction and reporting to the Associate Director, Student Equity and AccessAbility Services, this position will collaborate widely on process review and enhancement of AccessAbility Services and monitor outcomes of service enhancement initiatives. The role will drive the utilization and integration of assistive technology as an independent learning tool and have a thorough understanding of the principles of inclusive design.
The Senior AccessAbility Adviser will provide ongoing advice and support to AccessAbility Advisers as well as to teaching and administrate staff in the management of students with complex circumstances. You will be responsible for overseeing the assessment, delivery, coordination and administration of services to students with whom the University is required to negotiate reasonable adjustments under relevant State and Commonwealth legislation.
About Student & Academic Services
The Student & Academic Services department facilitates and acts as the key liaison point for the delivery of administrative services that support and enable the smooth operation of our courses and programs in line with University Regulations and Policy. The department has responsibility for the scheduling, coordination and management of the University’s formal examinations and all academic progress review activities. It is also responsible for ensuring compliance with the ESOS Act and the National Code, maintaining quality assurance systems, and focuses on continuous improvement and customer service.
It is the key provider of support services for international students designed to enhance their experience, including programs, activities, pastoral care and advice using best practice in student retention strategies and customer service. The department includes Safer Community, Student Housing & Finance, Wellbeing at Swinburne (comprising Health and Counselling services), Student Equity and AccessAbility services and is underpinned by a business partnership team with oversight across the portfolio.
About you
To be successful in the role, you will have:
• A relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience and / or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
• Demonstrated ability to consult based on a knowledge and understanding of relevant State and Commonwealth legislation pertaining to the rights of people living with disability and the responsibilities of educational institutions.
• Demonstrated expertise in providing service to people with complex circumstances, including mental health and learning difficulties, and the promotion of independent learning skills.
• Proven ability to analyse and improve service delivery and customer experience, implement solutions and evaluate results.
