About the School of Art

The School of Art at RMIT is an international site for innovative and diverse art, craft and photographic practices and research led by accomplished artists, photographers, theorists and professional staff who strive for excellence in pedagogy, research and innovation.

The School of Art has two discipline areas: Art and Photography.

About the role

The School of Art is seeking expressions of interests (EOIs) from qualified and experienced casual academic staff to register for teaching into the following programs:

• Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art)
• Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) (Honours)
• Bachelor of Arts (Photography)
• Bachelor of Arts (Photography) (Honours)
• Master of Fine Arts
• Master of Arts (Art in Public Space)
• Master of Arts (Arts Management)
• Master of Photography

Areas of knowledge and specialisation in the discipline of Art include art history, critical theory and cultural studies, arts management, ceramics, contemporary craft, contemporary curation, drawing, gold and silversmithing, painting, printmaking, public art, sculpture and installation, sound, video and media arts.

In Photography we are seeking casual academic staff with knowledge in camera craft, photographic theory, studio and location lighting, colour management and printing, fashion, architectural photography, commercial photography and digital technologies.

Your Expression of Interest will be reviewed and where we identify a teaching requirement that matches your skills, you will be contacted to arrange an interview. Teaching may be in Semester 1 or Semester 2 of 2020.

About you

As a casual academic staff member, you will be required to teach and conduct classes in studio/theory areas relevant to your field of expertise and assist in the academic and administrative, consultative and coordination tasks involved with these courses. Functions associated with the position include presentation of lectures, tutorials, studios and workshops; assessment of students; and course administration in line with the University’s quality assurance requirements.

You will be a part of a productive and collaborative team, who values working relationships and outcomes through open and inclusive planning, continuous information sharing and transparent work practices.

You will be empathetic, approachable and understanding of students’ diverse learning needs. Moreover, your aptitude to prepare and deliver innovative learning material through a range of learning activities will be highly advantageous to your success in this role.

Qualifications

To teach in our Bachelor degrees the minimum required qualification is an Honours degree; to teach in our Honours degrees the minimum required qualification is a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or a Master’s degree. For our Masters programs the minimum required qualification is a PhD. Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
