War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24 hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 7 day a week day centre, 24 hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. It is set within beautiful tranquil grounds and is a well-supported team environment.
This is a casual position across Monday to Friday with usual hours 0800-1630hrs (negotiable).
The Maintenance Officer at War Memorial Hospital (WMH) works as part of the small and well supported WMH Maintenance department. Our campus is a unique presentation of heritage and modern buildings in a prime Eastern Suburbs garden location. The Maintenance Officer is a key role in ensuring that the hospital facilities and grounds are maintained to a safe, cost effective and proud standard. The position reports to the WMH Maintenance Manager in carrying out repairs and minor maintenance jobs on equipment, a range of buildings and services across the site. The role is key to having an effective preventative maintenance program, ensuring a proactive approach, reducing the exposure to untimely and inconvenient breakdowns. This involves direct liaison with all levels of the WMH campus workforce, clients/patients and site visitors. The Maintenance Officer also supports the WMH Maintenance Manager in the induction and supervision of external contractors to complete more extensive preventative and reactive maintenance works. Knowledge of industry standards and Work Health & Safety principles is essential in ensuring a safe, efficient and quality service delivery for self, team and any visiting contractors. The position also provides leave relief for the WMH Maintenance Manager in a supervisory capacity on ad hoc days and longer periods of leave relief.

Selection Criteria
1. Demonstrated trades/handyman experience in a hospital / healthcare environment or other relevant area
2. Demonstrated ability to work under manager supervision and also independently following schedules, instructions and delegated tasks
3. Demonstrated ability to prioritise variable workloads and manage time effectively to get the job done
4. Demonstrated experience and ability to carry out minor repairs and maintenance work to a high quality standard
5. Proven friendly, approachable interpersonal communication skills with good customer service
6. Knowledge and understanding of relevant industry legislation that relates to buildings eg building codes, services eg fire systems
7. Knowledge of Work Health and Safety and general trade induction processes eg safe work method statements, hot works permits
8. Basic computer skills relevant to role and mandatory training requirements
