About the College/Role

The School of Science is one of RMIT's top-performing research schools, we deliver research that addresses the 'real life questions' essential to Australia's innovation agenda.

The teaching programs of the Computer Science disciplines cover a wide array of pertinent areas including programming languages and methodology, software engineering, computer architecture, systems analysis and design, theory of computation, database systems, games and graphics, artificial intelligence, data communications and networks, operating systems, web-based computing, search engines, and computer and network security. Research strengths of the Computer Science disciplines include Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Distributed Systems and Internet of Things, Machine Learning, and Computer Science Education. RMIT is ranked in the 150 universities world-wide, and equal 8th in Australia, for Computer Science and Information Systems, according to the 2019 QS Rankings.

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Computer Science you will:
  • Establish research collaborations with other institutions, industry, and governmental organisations, and obtain external funding to support research.
  • Supervise Higher Degree Research students, training and mentoring them to high-quality completion outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate course coordination and perform other administrative and leadership duties, in line with the above responsibilities.
  • Perform high quality research, producing publications in internationally-recognised high-impact Computer Science venues.

About you

As a Special Measures applicant, you will have:
  • Experience in preparing and delivering courses in core Computer Science / IT / Software Engineering at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery.
  • Experience in the supervision of Higher Degree by Research candidates. A Senior Lecturer applicant may be expected to have supervised HDR students to completion.
  • An emerging research track record or quality research outputs in an area of Computer Science, especially in one or more of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Distributed Systems, Data Management and Analytics, Machine Learning, or Digital Health. A Senior Lecturer may be expected to have a track record of research income.
  • Experience in preparing and delivering courses in core Computer Science / IT / Software Engineering at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery.
  • Ability to produce high quality curriculum or program materials and implementing innovative approaches to student-centered learning and quality improvement.


This position requires a PhD in Computer Science or a related area.
