About The Role

Role Location: Melbourne or Sydney

Role Type: 12 month fixed-term

As a Senior Lawyer, you will be providing legal advice and support to ANZ's Markets business. The focus of your role is to provide legal support to the Markets business on the following types of matters: (i) transactional support and legal advisory support on transactions, particularly with respect to rates and FX transactions, (ii) legal support for ongoing programmes relating to legal and regulatory risk management for sales and trading in OTC derivatives markets, (iii) legal and regulatory advice to support sales and trading in the OTC derivatives markets, (iv) legal support for development and use of financial markets infrastructure by ANZ, including access to trading platforms and clearing and settlement facilities, (v) legal support in relation to the adoption of new technologies and digital initiatives, such as internal trading platforms and algorithmic trading, applications and block chain technologies, (vi) legal support for regulatory change, (vii) legal support for interactions with regulators including, preparation for on sites and responding to regulatory notices and (viii) legal and regulatory advice and support for development of new products and distribution of products globally. 

The successful candidate must have significant experience as a finance lawyer generally and must have particular experience in some or all of the types of work listed above. Experience with OTC derivatives and Australian financial service law and regulatory interactions would be beneficial.  The successful applicant must have a flexible mind-set and be open to working differently.  This role can be located in Melbourne or Sydney.

• Admitted as legal practitioner in Australia, Tertiary Legal Qualification (Law Degree)
• Strong experience in providing legal services in a fast paced growth environment driven by innovation and subject to disruption
• Ability to build strong relationships with other lawyers and business people, must show willingness to become a trusted adviser
• Strong understanding of the financial markets environment, regulatory, compliance and risk issues and products. Must have a strong demonstrated risk radar.
• Strong commitment to technical excellence
