About the Role/College        

As a top 100 university in the world for engineering (2015 QS Rankings by Faculty; Engineering and Technology), RMIT Engineering provides students with work-relevant education programs, access to excellent research facilities and opportunities to engage in creative real-world project work through robust relations with local and international industry leaders. RMIT Engineering’s education is based on innovation and creativity. Key discipline areas in the School of Engineering provide programs with flexible pathways to global careers or postgraduate research.

As the Research Assistant, you will join a multidisciplinary research team and relish the opportunity to work with an internationally renowned research leader in the field of structural optimisation. You will contribute to providing high quality research in one or more of the following areas:  (1) structural form-finding and topological optimisation; (2) high-performance computation, cloud computing, computer programming and graphic user interface; (3) robotic fabrication and advanced manufacturing technologies; (4) digital design for free-form architecture. You will prepare and submit research grants and high-quality research publications, collaborate with local and international researchers and keep abreast of research trends and outcomes.

About you

  • Demonstrated an excellent research track record;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a research team and independently when required, to meet project outcomes and milestones;
  • Ability to supervise higher degree by research students;
  • Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate research funding through effective liaison with industry and government;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills appropriate for interacting with research students, staff and external stakeholders, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Already completed or submitted PhD thesis in a relevant field, or with an equivalent qualification
