About the opportunity


Our Early intervention programs are developed to strengthen families and communities with a focus on prevention.

We aim is to keep families together and out of the child protection system. Our programs provide information, referrals, home visits, support groups, and education that can make a real difference early in a child’s life, or before issues get too complicated.

As the Early intervention coordinator you will be responsible for the support, leadership and supervision of Supported Playgroups and Early Family Options. This is a part time role working 28 hours a week and will be based in our Wyong office.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the implementation and day to day operations of Early Family Options, Supported Playgroups and other EI programs as necessary
  • Monitor and attend home visits with team members when required to ensure quality practice.
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of playgroups and other group work programs in the community.
  • Supervise early intervention workers, group workers and volunteers, providing day to day professional guidance to staff, the allocation of families, undertaking regular case reviews and supervision meetings.
  • Together with the Community Programs Manager, develop and maintain a close relationship with DCJ to ensure seamless flow of information and referral between organisations.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with community based partners to deliver services.
  • Oversee all “Significant Risk of Harm reports” for your team ensuring that the rights of children are protected at all times in accordance with the NSW Children & Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998.
  • Approve brokerage expenditure in line with agreed case plans.
  • Provide effective performance management and timely response to staff issues as they arise.
  • Undertake regular file audits which includes data remediation and follow-up
  • Ensure appropriate use of financial and other resources.
  • Actively seek opportunities to strengthen engagement with and develop capacity within existing, new and potential Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, service users, service providers and community organisations
  • Work closely with the Community Development co-ordinator to deliver shared services and support to communities.



About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in the Social Sciences and at least 5 years’ experience working in a related community sector direct service delivery field or evidence of enrolment in relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience in a relevant welfare field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting on families with young children.
  • Previous experience of coordinating a team.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in working effectively, supporting diversity, and in partnership with the local communities covered by this position in planning and implementing family-needs driven programs and services.
  • Demonstrated understanding on the principals of prevention and the importance of and impact of children’s early years on later outcomes.
  • Demonstrated community based experience in delivering services
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation skills; report and submission writing.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and support.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage administrative time-lines in terms of the preparation, facilitation, organisation, development, maintenance, monitoring, planning and reporting functions of a service.
