The Victorian Pride Centre - Director Opportunities (Voluntary)
When it opens in early 2021, the Victorian Pride Centre will be the focal point of celebration for Australia’s diverse LGBTIQ community. It will provide an uplifting expression of welcome, engagement and belonging. It will be the second largest Pride Centre in the world.
It will be tenanted by a mix of major LGBTIQ organisations and a limited number of commercial tenancies including a cafe. It will be an action-packed Centre operating on an early morning to late night basis 7 days a week.
The Victorian Pride Centre is committed to being a culturally safe, inclusive and welcoming space, through recognising and engaging with all LGBTIQ identities and their intersectionalities including: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people of colour, people living with a disability, multi-faith, multi-lingual, multi-cultural, inter-generational, socially isolated, and rural communities.
The Board
The not for profit Victorian Pride Centre Ltd is a company limited by guarantee.
The Board operates as a skills-based board (currently 8) and a number of committees and working groups. Board is seeking to recruit up to four (4) new Directors as it moves from being a start-up company constructing a building, securing funds and engaging with key stakeholders, into a company with facilities management and community development functions.
Current executives and board members of resident/tenant organisations are unable to be board directors under the VPC Constitution. No board fees are payable to Directors.
As the Pride Centre moves from start-up construction to being operational, the Board will necessarily comprise a range of skills. The board is looking for new board directors to have general board and governance experience and skills in one or more of the following areas:
• marketing and communications
• facilities management
• tenancy management
• community development
• fundraising
The board is keen to have as many intersectionalities represented on the board as possible and will be actively recruiting and seeking diversity in its composition.
Applications are due in by 5pm 24 July 2020 and can be directed to:
Jude Munro AO, Board Chair by email: jude.munro@pridecentre.org.au
