About the Role:


This role is responsible for providing assessment, Intensive Home Visiting, crisis management, and longer term casework as per the Homebuilders Model to families at high risk of having their children removed into care for protective concerns or having their children restored to their care. 

This is a full time short term 3 month contract working 35 hours a week Monday to Friday where you will be a part of our Family Preservation team based in Turner, ACT


As the Caseworker your role specifically will:

  • Provide intensive casework and case management services to families within the child protection system who have been assessed as eligible for family preservation with a Safe with Plan and who are at risk of entry into the OOHC or to support the return of children home following a placement in OOHC.
  • Provide planning support and structure for the safety of children and young people and immediately take appropriate action in line with agency policies and relevant professional responsibilities where the safety of the child or young person is at risk.
  • Assess families’ strength and needs using the NCFAS G+R and other approved assessment tools.
  • Assist families to formulate and achieve goals that are child focused and address the safety and well-being of children.
  • Deliver services in a culturally inclusive and respectful manner to Aboriginal families and to families who come from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds including working with other bi lingual workers and Interpreter services.
  • Administer any outcome measurement tools required by the program and enter data into relevant data bases in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Be available to participate in an on-call roster.


About you: 

  • Degree qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or a related Bachelor’s degree with relevant casework and or clinical experience with at risk children and their families, or equivalent and relevant to the field of work.
  • The ability to assess and work with families to strengthen attachment and bonding between a parent and child.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage families in crisis and work in partnership with them to achieve their goals, using a variety of evidence based intervention strategies.
  • Experience working with fathers and families experiencing domestic violence.  
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and an ability to conduct risk and family assessments using strengths based approach.
  • Current driver’s license and willingness to transport families in company vehicles. 
  • Comply with ACT Working with Vulnerable People Check and National Police History Check requirements.
