About the College

The College comprises three Schools delivering a broad range of programs in science, engineering, health and technology at higher education certificate, bachelor, masters and PhD levels.  There is a vibrant research community attracting funding from a range of government and industry sources. The College has an annual income of approximately $500 million (with over $50 million in external research income p/a) and employs around 1,400 staff providing on and offshore programs to approximately 30,000 students (including 1,200 PhD students).

The School of Health and Biomedical Sciences comprises three Academic Clusters (Allied Health, Applied Health, and Biomedical Sciences).  Primarily based at the RMIT Bundoora campus, we undertake teaching and research across ten disciplines: Chinese Medicine, Chiropractic, Exercise Science, Human Biosciences, Laboratory Medicine, Medical Radiations, Nursing, Osteopathy, Pharmacy and Psychology.

Chronic Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases Research Program

Established in 2017, following significant investment into strategic research capacity, the School�s research program in Chronic Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases has developed into a strong and internationally competitive Program focused on chronic disease research. The Program consists of multiple independent but interlinked research groups and has a focus on respiratory research including studies on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, respiratory infections and lung regeneration that is presently supported by multiple NHMRC Project Grants, and on persistent viral infections such as studies investigating HIV pathogenesis, neuropathogenesis and HIV co-morbidities that is also presently supported by NHMRC Project Grants as well as NIH funding. 

About You and the Role

In this role, you will be accountable on assisting and supporting multiple project coordination which includes documenting and editing project plans, meetings, deliverables, progress reports, schedules, cost tracking and other pertinent reports on a daily basis .Coming into this role, you will also conduct various research activities ensuring all data, figures and information are collected and updated effectively and efficiently as well as  other administrative task such as ensuring daily laboratory supply is adequate and the incoming & outgoing sample shipments related to the projects is well coordinated and on-time. In addition, you will provide support and participate in identification, development, and improvement of best practices for managing and implementing projects or project management processes within this research team.

You will have:

  • Knowledge and prior research laboratory experience in performing and analysing experiments using animal models, molecular techniques, and cell culture techniques with the passion of acquiring new skills and techniques in this position
  • Strong communications skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of staff and researchers 
  • Possess an excellent record keeping skills and high levels of attention to details in maintaining updated information, reports, recordings and all other associated documentation
  • Highly developed organisational and time -management skills as well as sound analytical and problem-solving skills to meet the demand of workloads and deadlines
  • Computer savvy and competency in using common computer software and navigating through technologies relevant to data entry and processing
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as member of a team

Qualifications

Mandatory: Degree qualified with (Hons) in Biomedical Science, Science or Biological Sciences, or any related discipline within the Biomedical Sciences field.

Preferred: Completion of the Essentials in Tertiary Teaching Practice program or equivalent (if the appointed candidate does not meet this requirement at time of appointment, they will be supported to complete this as a requirement to fulfil their probation).

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
