War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24 hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 7 day a week day centre, 24 hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. It is set within beautiful tranquil grounds and is a well-supported team environment.
This position will join the Occupational Therapy department to plan, coordinate and deliver high quality Occupational Therapy intervention to outpatients of War Memorial Hospital (WMH) consistent with AHPRA, Uniting, NSW Health and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards, to achieve patient/client health outcomes within specified timeframes.
This role will help facilitate the delivery of an effective, flexible, innovative and integrated Occupational Therapy service. The role requires participation in quality initiatives within the Occupational Therapy department and/or hospital. A demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, evidence based practice, ongoing clinical and professional learning is required.
Selection Criteria:
1. Degree or post graduate qualification in Occupational Therapy, current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and eligible for membership with the NSW Association of Occupational Therapy
2. Current NSW Drivers’ License Class C
3. Minimum of 3 years’ experience working as an Occupational Therapist with a high level of knowledge, expertise and skill in Occupational Therapy practice relevant to an outpatient aged care rehabilitation environment, and ability to exercise independent professional judgement when managing complex clinical situations
4. Proven high level interpersonal, computer, written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate across all levels and departments within WMH and external stakeholders
5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other health professionals in a multi-disciplinary setting in order to provide a high standard of patient care and achieve health service outcomes
6. Proven ability to provide clinical supervision to junior staff members and students, demonstrating positive encouragement and support to enable them to reach their full professional potential
7. Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead quality improvement initiatives and evaluate Occupational Therapy services
This position will be joining our Occupational Therapy Driver Assessment service, outpatient team, and Geriatric Flying Squad.
This position is a part time fixed term role of 24 hours per week (0.6FTE) from September 2020 – 27th November 2020.
