About the Job
Applications are invited for the position of Director's Research Fellow at the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University of Technology to work in collaboration with the Centre Director, Professor Jean Brodie. The Director's Research Fellow may be appointed at a level between A6 and B2. An appointment at level B is equivalent to Lecturer but with no requirement to teach units in the Centre. The appointment is for a fixed term of three years.

The Fellow is expected to pursue a vigorous independent research program in an area closely aligned with the interests of Professor Jean Brodie’s research group whose chief focus is on galaxy formation and evolution. The origins and evolution of various types of star clusters, and extragalactic globular cluster systems, are a part of the group’s core program as are comparisons of observationally derived constraints with state-of-the-art-simulations of galaxy formation in a cosmological contest. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in the area of galaxy formation and should be familiar with photometric and spectroscopic data acquisition and analysis, including IFU and multi-object observations. The Director’s Research Fellow may take up to 20% of their time for their personal research.

The Director's Fellow is expected to assist with the management of Professor Brodie’s research group. The appointee will join an active research group in Australia's most rapidly growing astronomy department. Swinburne astronomers regularly obtain national observing time on the ESO, AAT, Magellan, ATCA and Parkes telescopes. They have Swinburne-specific institutional access to the W.M. Keck telescopes in Hawaii (10-12 nights per year). The Centre has OZSTAR, a Supercomputer, available in house, as well as access to state-of-the-art 3D visualization facilities.
