About the role 

On 9 October 2019 the Commonwealth Government announced funding for the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society. The Centre has been awarded Australian Research Council (ARC) funding of $31.8m over seven years, 2020-2026. An additional $39.3 million in cash and in-kind support has been committed by the Centre partners. The Centre will be hosted at RMIT, with Julian Thomas as Director and Jean Burgess (QUT) as Associate Director.

The Centre’s Investigators are internationally renowned experts in the core disciplines essential to the Centre’s collaborative approach, coming from across the humanities, social and technological sciences, with strong records of innovation, impact and external engagement.

The Administration Coordinator is a professional staff appointment that will provide high level administrative and diary support for the Centre Director and support the professional staff team, under the direction of the Manager, Business and Operations and the Chief Operating Officer.

About you 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience in providing high-level executive and administrative support to a senior executive or equivalent in a university environment or similar large and complex organisation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating discretion, confidentiality and experience dealing with a wide range of stakeholders at different levels including executive level.
  • High level of customer focus and ability to interact and negotiate with a wide range of internal and external customers.
  • Excellent, proven communication skills, both written and oral, including letter/email/minute writing, good telephone skills and the ability to compile briefing notes.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to be agile in the work environment.
  • Proven capacity to prioritise tasks and exercise discretionary judgment and solve problems independently in an environment of high volume of work and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated high level of computer literacy including: Microsoft O365; presentation software; internet and electronic document management applications. Experience in project management systems will be advantageous.
  • Evidence of self-motivation for ongoing personal development. 
     

Qualifications

Desirable:

  • A tertiary degree in administration or equivalent relevant experience in administration.
  • Previous experience working in a large research institution, University or ARC Centre of Excellence.

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
