About The Role
Role Location: Melbourne
Role Type: Permanent, Full time 

You will be responsible for contributing to the development and application of Financial Policy across all ANZ’s business units. This includes supporting and collaborating with the business in order to deliver valuable and commercial accounting advice, and the research and the technical evaluation of accounting standards as they apply to ANZ business activities, products and services. Your role includes in-depth accounting analysis of business unit transactions and services, customer and product initiatives and merger and acquisition activities and also includes input to and the critical review of external financial reports prepared by others using highly developed technical accounting expertise.

You will be part of the Financial Control (FC) community of practice, with principal accountabilities being: 
  • Implementation and monitoring of the application of Group accounting policies
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Integrity of the numbers by delivering accurate, reliable and timely financial information
  • Driving simplification, ensuring consistency with objectives and a focus on continuous improvement
  • Embedding a culture of excellence, integrity and collaboration.
Your key priorities and responsibilities include:
  • Provision of accurate and practical accounting advice, ensuring advice is technically correct, communicated effectively, practical to apply and appropriate consideration is given to commercial aspects of the issue or transaction
  • Development of clear and user friendly accounting policies, ensuring polices are technically correct, reflect the Group's interpretation of the technical standards, are communicated effectively and understood by stakeholders
  • Provide assistance in financial due diligence activities on proposed acquisitions and restructurings
  • Lead impact analysis activities regarding relevant accounting exposure drafts
  • Ensure external financial reporting documents comply with appropriate accounting standards requirements, updating documents such as the Annual Report and the Financial Report in accordance with changing requirements of Australian accounting standards, the Corporations Law and the ASX
  • Engage external auditor to reach agreement on proposed accounting treatments in a prompt and effective manner
  • Develop and contribute to a high performing and engaged team through coaching and guidance to meet agreed goals, including provision of feedback, encouragement and open communication
  • Continue to uplift people capability through investments in leadership, people development and build the finance management bench strength
  • Drive and lead the ICARE values in day-to-day activities within the team (observable by others)

About You
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
  • A Bachelors’ university degree, or have an extensive senior executive experience. Chartered Accountant (CA) / Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) an advantage.
  • Extensive professional experience in financial services roles, with deep expertise, knowledge and experience in the application of Australian accounting standards
  • Strong working knowledge of technical accounting within a financial services environment coupled with a strong understanding of banking and financial services
  • Experience in presenting finance matters, including issues and resolutions, to senior executives such as the CFO, business executives and board-level stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills applied at a commercial level with excellent written and verbal communication skills in a technical context
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment & has the ability to identify and effectively execute improvements to processes
