About the role: 

This role sits in the STEM College.?The College comprises four Schools delivering a broad range of programs in science, engineering, health and technology at higher education certificate, bachelor, masters and PhD levels. Many programs articulate between vocational and higher education, creating pathways for further study. There is a vibrant research community attracting funding from a range of government and industry sources. The College has an annual income of approximately $550 million and employs over 1,400 staff providing on and offshore programs to approximately 30,000 students. 

RMIT University is a Bronze Award Athena SWAN member and the College of Science, Engineering and Health is central to driving improvements in gender equality, diversity and inclusion, particularly in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

The Dean is responsible for executive leadership for the School, including school operations, academic and research performance. This leadership position will be accountable for the direction and management of the School and will work collaboratively across College to enable the College to deliver on the next stage of transformation.  

The Dean will lead academic transformations in the School through digital innovation including online and blended learning modes of delivery, work integrated learning and collaboration with RMIT Online and partners in Australia, Vietnam and other locations. The Dean will also drive excellence in research and grow external income through industry engagement and research partnerships.  

 

As the Dean of Health and Biomedical Sciences; you will be a critical member of the College Executive team, supporting the Deputy Vice Chancellor STEM College and Vice President Digital innovation. You will provide leadership for the Schools operations, academic and research performance, as well as the direction and management of the school. Note - This is a full-time organisational leadership role not a research role.

You will have proven ability to secure partnerships with industry and external stakeholders and the ability to communicate a vision in an engaging collaborative manner with internal stakeholders. Your background is that you may have Healthcare or hospital experience (and are able to create manager placements/internships).

You will have demonstrated capacity to exercise academic leadership to enhance RMIT’s performance and standing as well as experience shaping a positive, collaborative and innovative culture, leading within a complex organization. 

Key accountabilities as the Dean Health and Biomedical Science includes: 

  • Lead School strategy in line with College and RMIT strategy, growth targets, performance outcomes and other KPIs, working collaboratively within the College Executive team.  
  • Enhance quality and student experience across distributed locations.  
  • Ensure continuous improvement of the School's learning and teaching activities including relevance, viability, quality of its academic programs (blended and online learning initiatives) 
  • Manage the profile, financial and physical resources of the School   
  • Drive growth in industry collaboration in relevant disciplines and professional areas  
  • Drive international growth in education and research and enhance the College’s profile and market position 
  • Develop a culture that embraces change and innovation
