About the role

As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will be part of the Control and General Accounting team, you will be responsible for the statutory reporting and general accounting oversight and will have 3 or 4 direct reports. In this role, you will manage the provision of accurate, high-quality financial information pertaining to RMIT financials and divisional/group performance ensuring that information is compliant with both internal and external accounting and statutory reporting requirements. This role will see you analyse risk frameworks, potential for fraud and effectively communicate outcomes of each audit assignments while making recommendations to redesign process.

In addition, the Senior Financial Accountant will:

  • Manage of all financial audits and related internal and external audit programs
  • Maintain the financial risk management framework
  • Oversee the delivery of project accounting, expense audits, general asset, inventory transfers and movements and all other accounting activities undertaken by direct reports
  • Monitoring of the management and audit of the internal financial controls including preparation of financial statements, management of statutory reporting and audit.

About you

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

  • Strong in-depth technical knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and other relevant reporting and account standards relating to governance, risk management and the test of policies and process
  • Significant experience in financial accounting/auditing including in statutory reporting within complex organisational matrices and/or global/group environments
  • Proven track record of solving complex and/or technical issues using a variety of innovative approaches to drive culture, sound decision making, change and high performance
  • Highly developed business acumen, a willingness to challenge the status quo, analytical, insight generation with strong self-development skills
  • Previous experience in budgeting and forecasting specific to balance sheet and cashflow
  • Ability to synthesise and share data insights and lead conversations with stakeholders on how data can best be used to quantify solutions to problems.

Qualifications

A relevant tertiary qualification and membership of a professional association (CA/CPA) and/or experience in a financial management role in a large, complex organisation.
