About the opportunity  

Newpin is Uniting’s intensive therapeutic centre based program that applies a trauma informed approach to support the restoration of children safely home to their parent/s. We provide therapeutic support groups and personal development programs as well as therapeutic play sessions.

We’re looking for a Coordinator as exceptional as the teams they’ll lead, to provide day to day coordination, guidance and leadership to our specialist team of Family Practitioners, Play Practitioners and Admin/Drivers. 

This is a Full time fixed term contract until February 2022 based in Lambton.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Providing efficient and effective management of the Newpin Centre
  • To support staff to work within a trauma informed practice framework as they provide informal and formal therapeutic interventions for groups, individual parents and children. This includes facilitating therapeutic support groups, contact visits for children in OOHC and their parents, playroom activities, time in the lounge room and lunch times.
  • Support staff to provide relevant therapeutic support, situational counselling and referrals as issues arise for parents in consultation with the agency which has case management.
  • Actively promote a therapeutic environment within the Newpin centre that develops healthy attachments between parents and children.
  • When necessary, facilitate the parents Therapeutic Support Groups and Personal Development Program (PDP).
  • To ensure that the electronic client data information system is completed and that entries are of a professional quality and entered in a timely manner.
  • To take responsibility for staff appraisals, leave applications, fortnightly supervision and any performance management as required.
  • To ensure that all reports to Family and Community Services, regarding parents are accurate and timely and recorded by staff’ this includes open access to personal records for each parent.
  • To facilitate weekly team meeting and case reviews.
  • Respond to child protection matters in line with organisational child protection policies and procedures
  • To work closely with relevant government and non-government agencies to ensure the promotion of the Newpin program and the best possible outcome for families.
  • To host visits by state and commonwealth stakeholders and undertake appropriate media work in liaison with the leadership team and media team.

 About You 

  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Welfare, Social Sciences or other relevant degree
  • At least 3 years’ experience of leading a team to achieve program aims and to effectively supervise, coordinate, develop and support staff
  • Demonstrated ability to engage families in crisis and work in partnership with them to achieve their goals, using a variety of intervention strategies from a range of theoretical models
  • Experience of, and commitment to, using attachment theory and trauma informed work in a strengths based environment, with adults and children.
  • Experience in running groups, with a demonstrated understanding and commitment to therapeutic support and psycho-educational group work
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of families and communities as required
