Who are we?

ANZ Core Systems is a conglomerate of mainframe systems that run ANZ's Customer, Deposit and Lending Accounts, Transaction and Card Systems. Servicing multiple business units and tribes across ANZ, Core Systems applications runs on Mainframe and Mainframe runs traditional MVS and Unix operating systems. Linux is in the pipeline.

We run mission critical applications for the bank and this brings serious challenges to solve and engineer. The services we build underpin most parts of the bank. We engineer systems that process thousands of transactions per second in real time.

What you bring to Core Systems?

We look first and foremost for people who are passionate and have an obsession to solve business problems through innovation and engineering practices. We embrace a culture of experimentation and constantly strive for improvement and learning. You’ll work in a collaborative, trusting, thought-provoking environment – one that encourages diversity of thoughts and creative solutions.

  • Advanced knowledge of architecture and designs across multiple systems (mainframe, distributed & cloud)
  • Knowledge of industry wide technology trends and best practices
  • Strong experience in Software development lifecycle, DevOps (build, CI, CD & CT) and standard methodologies
  • Continuous improvement junkie – ability to constructively challenge the status quo, look for better ways to do things and passionately advocate continuous improvement. Automate everything
  • Ability to make right trade-off choices when dealing with functional complexity a, conflicting priorities and aggressive schedules
  • A learning attitude to continuously improve self, team and the organisation
  • Ability to drive quality improvement initiatives and processes
  • Experience leading, developing and retaining high performing engineering talent
  • Understanding of security protocols (authorisation, authentication, encryption)
  • Experience in implementing monitoring and alerting tools

Technical skills:

  • Exposure to mainframe based technologies – JCL, COBOL, IMS, DB2, CICS etc.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages - Python, Shell, JavaScript etc.

  • Working knowledge of AWS, GCP, Openshift etc.
  • Experience with integration technologies – MQ, REST, Kafka etc.
  • SCM/CI/CD tools – GitHub, Jenkins, Codefresh, Jfrog, uDeploy etc.

  • Core Banking experience with Hogan platform will be bonus

While few of our engineers have all the skills above, they do all code. Your curiosity, learning aptitude and growth mind-set is more important than the specific technical skills you carry. “Not my job” is not part of your vocabulary.

This is a role for an experienced Lead Engineer and involves both people (30%) and technical leadership. You will need to have a hands-on approach and be expected to roll up your sleeves, and get your hands dirty.
