About the scholarship
A PhD scholarship is available for a high caliber candidate to join an industry led research project. The theme of the project is in the area of automation of plastic repair applications. We are seeking and capable candidates who are interested in pursuing a PhD in the area of computer vision to support this development. The PhD student will work as part of a team of material scientists and robotics researchers aiming to integrate technologies from 3D scanning and computer vision in a novel industrial automation solution. This is a new and very challenging area with high potential for future growth.
We are pursuing research problems in geometric computer vision, deep learning and robot vision. The ideal candidate is interested in both basic research and practical applications of computer vision and has strong programming skills. In particular, we are interested in topics related to Deep Learning methods for feature detection and 3D pose estimation on surface structures.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
• Bachelor’s degree (with first class honors) or a Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, robotics or related field. Significant industrial relevant experience will also be well considered.
• Strong programming skills.
• Familiarity of 3D scanning technologies
