About the job

The Principal Specialist, Academic Operations reports to the Executive Director, Academic and presents a key line of advice for the DVC (Academic) regarding operations, planning, performance management and implementation of initiatives across the Academic Portfolio. The Academic Portfolio is working towards Swinburne University’s visionary Future Ready Learners strategy as we create a lifelong learning ecosystem with students, industry and partners. Pivotal in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), this role will have the opportunity to collaborate and work with leaders across the Academic Portfolio in activating this strategy. It will take a lead on implementing operations solutions for issues raised to the DVC(A), as well as drive the planning activities across the Academic Portfolio that need to support the strategy’s objectives. This includes negotiating, influencing and supporting key stakeholders across the organisation to realise these objectives across the areas of; workload and workforce, product, student load, and financials. The role will push continuous improvement of the planning, performance and reporting framework

Skills and experience

To be successful you will have sound knowledge and experience in implementing strategic and operational planning, performance frameworks and processes. With a strong understanding of key operational drivers in the higher education environment, you will be able to analyse data to enhance informed decision making across the Portfolio. With outstanding interpersonal skills you will be able to work with senior leaders and other cross- functional groups to define complex issues, facilitate ideas, influence thinking and facilitate implementation. Excellent writing skills, including demonstrated ability to produce comprehensive recommendations, implementation plans, and reports will be imperative to your success in this role.
